I say it again and again: Solid waste management is not my forte.
But sometimes we are thrust into situations that we are not exactly prepared for, or desire, for that matter. Yesterday afternoon, I was at the Parish of St. James the Apostle in Betis to conduct a solid waste management orientation. I did not expect the audience to be mainly the truck drivers and garbage collectors of several barangays.
I had my PowerPoint presentations but the room we were in was too bright. Well, I flashed the slides and tried to translate the text into my best Capampangan. Wow, I think I made a miserable fool of myself. I had a few enthusiastic souls though. But that’s not my point.
I’m posting this online to remind myself to have someone translate my materials into the vernacular and to please, please, please find funds to make flipcharts for situations when an LCD projector is not appropriate for the situation.
Funny how we heavily rely on the assumption that everyone is technologically equipped these days. I agree with you. As the presenter, we should always be ready for all the possibilities. Or at least, check the logistics of the place where we will be presenting.

Right on Charlie dear!
Well, I asked for an LCD projector, which they had and the group before us was using it in that same room. I just needed something darker to make my true-to-life pictures come alive, if you can call it that. Maarte ba ako?
Basta, for the masa, use more appropriate technology. That should be my mantra starting from now, oh, last Saturday.
